This model is a show donation for Sweet Onion Live that will be held on August 19 in Walla Walla, WA.
Unlike the Big Orange Bash and Park Color Craze Live show donations, this little fella was left completely up to the whim of my muses.
When I first got the body it was covered in multiple layers of paint and primer that obscured most of the details. I tried hitting him up with Easy Off, but that only partially pealed the top layer of primer and made everything very sticky… so he took a few 24 hour baths in Pine Sol and water and came out as good as new.
Due to a prepping error (the carbide scraper slipped), he’s now a she, but other than seal and gender removal I didn’t make any changes to the mold.
After prepping she got a shaded basecoat that mimics a dark bay horse. I used Bright Bronze for the main body color, Bright Gold for the lighter areas and Rich Bronze for the dark points. Her mane and tail are shaded in all three colors and her hooves are striped similarly with added silver highlights.
The white appaloosa blanket is plain non-sparkly guesso, but the spots are in both shades of bronze– some of which were opaques with white to give him a little more depth. His eyes are realistic, but the pupils are Rich Bronze, not brown.
She was sealed in a nice thick coat of gloss sealer that should make her well nigh indestructible, at least for minor bumps and falls.
UPDATE: This little gal has been approved by the showholder and will be dancing out to her new home in the next few days! 😀
The Breyer Stablemate G3 Friesian is roughly 3 inches tall, 4 inches long, and an inch wide. Per Breyer Stablemates are all 1:32 scale, but it varies a bit between molds.
