The Internet Never Forgets

Every so often I get an odd search string that shows up in the Google results when I wander Google Analytics. One that gave me real pause came in a few days ago: “rise and walk” book by “martha bechtel”

You see, back in 2006 I was sick and on NyQuil and ran into an evil little plot bunny that was the core of The Book That Isn’t Rise and Walk. I played around with it, fleshed out the bones a bit, and then dropped the synopsis off at Evil Editor for him to rip into nice tiny little pieces (Face-Lift 120).

Only he didn’t, so much— he cut it down some so it fit on one page and threw in some jokes… and didn’t tell me it sucked.

In the comments other readers pointed out that the title Rise and Walk was already in use by another famous book and that I should pick something else. And they also didn’t tell me it sucked.

So it became The Book That Isn’t Rise and Walk or House of Fire depending on my mood.

I played around with a bit more and then got distracted (as I am wont to do) and wandered off. Truth be told, I was a little spooked that no one thought it sucked.

And a few days ago someone googled it.

Which means someone, somewhere wanted to find my psychotic little plot bunny based on a synopsis from five years ago (I can’t think of how else they would have found it.)

Wow.

I’m going to go off and sit in a corner in a bit of a daze, because, just, wow.

    That was me!
I think everything you write is beyond perfect, and I want to see books by you because you are the awesomest writer ever. Also, I’m giving you Narnia, Peter Pan, and Labyrinth for your very own when I take over the world.
I’m currently doing the NaNoWriMo Young Writer’s Program as the last thing on the top of this comment. Email me if you want to know my real name.
Also, I got in somebody’s blog post thingy! And it’s in my favorite ever! Awesome!

*grin* I’m glad you liked it enough to try and track it down! 🙂

      Someday I will get my Muses in line and get the fanfic back off the ground again– I just hit dry spells now and then. ^_~;;

Good luck with NaNo, I’m way behind myself but I’m hoping to rally back today and catch up to where I’m supposed to be! 😀

Have you moved forward with this book at all? I just ran into it on Evil Editor, and if its done I would love to read it.

I have a massive pile of notes that never made it out of an outline and into prose. But since this is the second request for more that stems from a post from 2006… I think I need to get up off my duff and get it finished.

I am in the midst of Camp NaNoWriMo, so I’ll start work on this project in May. Check back in a few months and hopefully I’ll have some more news! 🙂
