In Dreams of Trees : Almost Superman

Posted on November 23, 2011May 18, 2020 by Martha Bechtel

Wordcount: 132
Rating/Warnings: PG
Summary: It’s time to Cowboy-up and Solider on.

NOTE: This is a very rough draft with no editing at all (per National Novel Wiriting Month rules) and is presented for amusement value only. Think of it as a periscope into my writing process rather than a coherent story!

There will most likely be spelling and grammatical errors afoot as well as flat out bad writing, info dumps, plot holes, contradictions/retcons, uneven characterization and pacing. These snippits are also posted out of order, so please refer to the Outline to figure out where it’s supposed to fit.

Almost Superman

He wants to save the world. It’s not that he thinks he can, it’s that he knows he has to. There are no second chances, not anymore. Either he does this or he is a failure. He’ll have betrayed the trust that Maddy put in him, that John put in him. He has to fix this because the other option isn’t worth thinking about.

So he makes deals and promises that he never would have considered before. Does things that would have made his younger, less hardened self wince at if, not run from all together. It’s not something he’s proud of, he doesn’t have to be proud, he just has to save the world.

It’s better to beg forgiveness than ask permission– and there’s no one left to ask permission from.
