Midnight Thunder

Midnight Thunder

Make: Breyer
Scale: Stablemate
Mold: Shire (G2)
Color: Black Sabino
Gallery: Sabino
Medium: Acrylics
Status: Painted 2004 and Sold March 2004

Thunder has had his face resculpted to a more roman nose and is painted in a shaded black sabino. The shadings are hard to see here, but there’s just a hint of brown and blue in the coat.

This little guy always makes me sad when I see him—a few months after I sold him he was back on eBay, only this time his mane and tail had been badly glossed and he looked horrible. I tried to get the seller to add a note that I hadn’t been the one to paint him like that, since they were using my name in the auction, but they ignored me.

Not the happiest day of my life by a long shot. (sigh)

He was one of my most successful facial resculpts (at least to me) and he started out that way because his nose had been massively malformed. It was easier to just dremel the top down and start over than try and fix it.

One of the horses that I know what happened to, at least until he went back up on auction. they were asking almost twice what he sold for the first time– never found out if anyone bought him, but I sort of hope not.
