August Camp NaNoWriMo – Day 30

August 2011

It’s time to throw in the towel.

Hope may burn eternal, but I’m roughly 700 words into a 50,000 word goal and even if I took tomorrow off work there is no way I could cram that out in less than 48 hours. (Plus I just took Friday and Monday off work due to hurricane Irene, so I doubt another day off would go over well.)

On the one hand, this is good since it gives me a novel idea that’s ready to go come November, but bad since it means I not only failed the August Camp NaNoWriMo, I failed it hardcore.

Part of me wants to sit down tonight and tomorrow night and see if I can’t get at least 10,000 words on paper—just so I can say I didn’t fail as badly.

Which is silly.

And would mean I couldn’t use the idea for next NaNo.

And I really like the idea.

Sigh.

So I’m going to bribe myself out of the stupidity by setting a new non-NaNo goal for September. It won’t be 50,000 words and it won’t be part of a massive group event… but it will be the first few steps on the path to getting in writing (and walking) shape for November.

Details are still being hashed out, but I’ll post those tomorrow—in case anyone else wants to play along!
