August Camp NaNoWriMo – Day 10

Posted on August 10, 2011December 13, 2018 by Martha Bechtel
Best Laid Plans

As of this morning, my wordcount was 5.

That included the title page.

I’ve got a lot of good excuses: only the words written on my treadmill computer count, I’ve been sick, I’ve been busy, the story isn’t speaking to me– but in the end NaNo’ing comes down to breaking through the excuses.

We’re not in this “because they are easy, but because they are hard, because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to win.” (John F. Kennedy)

And although hitting 50,000 words in 31 21 days isn’t quite the same thing as landing on the moon, it’s feeling just as remote.

All I have to do is turn on the treadmill and write… why is it so hard?
