Summary: Please note, this is currently a very rough draft. There will be spelling and grammatical errors afoot as well as flat out bad writing, info dumps, plot holes, flat out contradictions, and uneven characterization and pacing. (Content is also subject to constant change as I take an editing chainsaw to the story.)
The Great Spouse Hunt
Although May already had a fiancé she was still drawn into the lively banter that swept through the people her age. There were whispered conversations, notes passed between friends and neutral intermediaries. Then there were parental meetings, a few dates to suss out compatibility, and more often than not a trial engagement to see how things went.
Her best friend was hunting for a spouse this again year. Cybil was looking for someone in a compatible profession, or even just a householder who could mind the home while she worked her craft unimpeded. There were quite a few folks who had lower ambitions, closer to home and hearth than she did. It was odd to think that most of them were looking for families and a way to carry on the business without the drastic changes May herself was looking forward to.
She acted as wingman to Cybil’s hunt, sending out the call among her cousins and family friends that eligible bachelors could do worse than stop by.
There were a few new people at this hatching, news of the golden egg brought in more travelers than normal. Since the golden hatchling would not choose a rider until it hit its third year, the hatching itself was a safe spectator event.
Not that she was sure there would even been a golden hatchling, but when Cybil took a break in her manhunt, due to a sudden shower, they ducked into the hatching caverns to see for themselves.
