That Don’t Impress Me Much : Part 73

Wordcount: 234 words
Rating/Warnings: PG-13
Summary: Please note, this is currently a very rough draft. There will be spelling and grammatical errors afoot as well as flat out bad writing, info dumps, plot holes, flat out contradictions, and uneven characterization and pacing. (Content is also subject to constant change as I take an editing chainsaw to the story.)

Flight and Fight

They took off into the air and were spotted almost immediately.

May took a moment to make sure they’d recognized her, then fed Flame and Baron a burst of speed. It almost was not enough, with them fighting the winds that the stormhawks flung at them. But they’d times the run well, most of the patrols were elsewhere, not expecting them to flee west.

Once they were high enough, the switched to gliding and May let the circle fall. She was tired, but Baron and Flame were fine, which was how they’d planned it. She relaxed on Flame’s back, lulled into napping by the gentle buffeting of the wind.

She woke later and ate, then pushed energy to Baron whose wings were aching enough to make her flex her own shoulders in discomfort.

“Do we need to stop?”

“There is not enough cover here.” Flame said. “We’ll need to reach the foothills. Do you think you can keep him up long enough?”

“I am fine,” objected Baron, “I’ve got my second wind now.”

“That’s your fourth second wind.” Flame pointed out mildly. “Once the adrenaline rush is gone it takes a lot with it kit, it’s nothing personal.”

“I am fine.” Baron insisted.

“Right, well you will have to be fine until the foothills.” Which were a smudge on the horizon. “Tell me if that things change, we can’t afford to have you hurt.”
