After The Rain

Once the rain stopped the three fledglings took to the skies to try and find the rest of the warren and any other survivors. Dog and Winter’s riders came with them, but May stayed behind with Omen and the others.

they found a few more survivors and made notes as to where they were. they gave directions to those that could move, but many of them had been waiting the three days and had no strength left.

They found the warren camp by themselves a ways off and the other foxhawks warned them off. Baron let them know that the golden was alive and well and Jeffery and Clarie were alive as well. There was some squabbling and then they were called down to talk things over.

They came down, but at a distance since they did not trust them. They talked about the other camp and how the foxhawks were regarded at the moment. It was decide that they best way to patch things over was to help rescue the survivors and to bring supplies into the camp.

So they did that, the adults going back to where they had found people and airlifting them within distance of the camp but not right there since they were not sure how they would be received. By the time they had the first few people there, Dog and Winter’s riders and the others from the group had convinced them that the foxhawks were there to help.

there was a lot of suspicion because the foxhawks had run off and left them that way to start with, but the more pragmatic understood the drive to protect your own family first

fences were mended somewhat and people started trying to rebuild a bit.

There were a LOT of people who had died or been injured, the whole city was basically flattened and they had not had a lot of time to get out.

after the foxhawks rescued the living, they started the unpleasant task of bringing back the dead.

they identified the bodies as best they could, but came down to just making a list of the dead before they went into the earth. they were mass graves, but they stayed with custom, long narrow rows where the dead were layered between strata of earth starting far down and building up four to five deep.

Foxhawks were good at digging long low trenches, so that is what they dug to bury them.

May had not found her uncle or Aaron and there was no bakery to inherit now. She wondered if Lucky had stayed with Aaron or left him– he had not been in the cycles of foxhawks that came in to work from the warren.
