Midnight Royal

Midnight Royal

Make: Breyer
Scale: Stablemate
Mold: Saddlebred (G2)
Color: Dark Purple-bay and Silver Tobiano
Gallery: Tobiano
Medium: Acrylics, Liquitex Dioxazine Purple
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

This dashing gal was modeled after a real horse, as you can see by the reference photos, but was not a custom order. I was trying to learn the tobiano patterns and wanted to work from life as opposed to imagination and this looked like a fun one to try.

Sadly I don’t know who the reference horse is. The filenames weren’t helpful and I can’t find the original files that I downloaded. I even tried searching with TinEye hoping to find a match, but alas.

Amusingly if you search Google Images for “black tobiano saddlebred” photographs you get 90% model horses (or at least I do).

Her coloring is a dark purple bay and she’s actually got a lot of shading, from a bright purple down to black, but due to the joys of dioxazine purple it’s hard to see in the scans and photos. Yet another horse that looked better in person… but that I sold online.

Somedays I wonder how on earth I managed to sell any of these little guys… *sigh*
