Splatterpaint

Posted on June 8, 2011January 29, 2019 by Martha Bechtel
Splatterpaint

Make: Ertl Farm Country (Collectible Animals)
Scale: Stablemate-ish
Mold: Shetland Pony Foal
Color: Black Tovero
Gallery: Other
Medium: Acrylics
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

This little guy is an Ertl soft plastic mold (he came in a set with Shenandoah) and was my first attempt at prepping a non-Breyer mold. As you can see, it was a pretty rough learning curve!

Splatterpaint’s coat pattern is the lovely combination of Serendipity and Learning From One’s Mistakes. He had originally been started in oils, but they were reacting oddly with his plastic. So I stripped him to repaint in acrylics… and ran into problems getting all of the primer off.

The pattern you see is from me priming over the paint I couldn’t remove. The white was where I got the paint off and the black was where I couldn’t. He’s sort of a tovero pattern, if you squint, but he’s definitely not based off of anything I saw in nature!

Still, he is pretty adorable and he was snapped up off of eBay when I listed him. I’m assuming it was because of the inherent cuteness of the mismatched eyes…
