This little guy was one of my earlier customs, as you can tell by the wonderfully terrible photos and the lack of shading in his coat and hooves. Knight was a basic stencil brush sabino, with an extra bit of darker dappling via the same method.

He does sport blue eyes, which were relatively rare on my customs. I never managed to learn the trick to painting them, so they always looked rather unrealistic. Thankfully that wasn’t too out of place on the fantasy equines.

I do like the way the stencil brush creates a very fine spotting, but if I had him to paint over I would pay more attention to the red and less to the pattern. You can put a lot of depth into a horse by making sure the basecoat is full of color and contrast—even if you end up covering most of it up with white markings down the line.

The Breyer Stablemate G2 Clydesdale/Shire is a little under 3 inches tall, 3.5 inches long, and 1.5 inches wide. Per Breyer Stablemates are all 1:32 scale, but it varies a bit between molds.
