I’m a little unsure if I meant her to be a sabino roan or a true roan with sabino on top, since she has the dark points of a true roan, but the bald face and sabino markings. (You have to squint to see them, but she does have belly spots as well as high whites on her hind legs.)
This little gal was one of my later customs, as you can tell by the headshot and background, so I’m a little annoyed I don’t have better photos of her. There’s nothing quite so hard to get good pictures off as a splaterpaint roan!
This little gal had an initial basecoat of white with blended copper points and then I went back over her with both copper and roan until I had a nice mix of colors. At this point I was on top of my game with the toothbrush splatter method and there are very few directional spots. (You can see the improvement between Copper and Penny Thoughts)
Splatterpaint roaning is definitely a technique I’m going to have to work on mastering again—it’s a lot easier than fighting with the airbrush and I think it has a more visually interesting effect. Plus I am never etching anything again after Grey Twilight, so I’m limited in my roaning methods…
