This fella was an experiment in using metallic colors with realistic coat patterns. It was an idea I had picked up from various model painting tips and tricks articles, but I think I might have overdone the mixture a tad. Still it’s an interesting effect and I might try it again sometime, although much more carefully.

(The Color Formula’s cards actually do give mixture ratios, but since they are focused on painting Traditional models I always ended up with a lot more paint than I needed.)

Otherwise I think the little guy turned out rather well. The color is eye-catching, even if it isn’t as realistic as I hoped, and he packed quite a punch in person.

Amusingly the reason I have so many Saddlebred customs is because the dealer I was buying from would give me discounts on her overstock. Thus I had very few mules and a metric ton of Saddlebreds. Ah well, win some, lose some… I still had fun!
