15 Minutes is Forever (or: Adulthood, in Baby Steps)

I think on some level everything we do is motivated by how it changes the way other people perceive us. I want to be a Grown Up(tm) not necessarily because being a Grown Up(tm) is something I really aspire to, but because other people’s theoretical first reaction to me would be ‘Wow, she’s got this Grown Up thing down!’ and not ‘Ah look, she’s forgotten it’s garbage day again.’

But regardless of whether my motive is rational or not, I’m giving it a go.

The FlyLady is a website I stumbled across a while ago, not quite sure how I ended up there, but I’m glad I did. The website is dedicated to helping folks escape CHAOS (Can’t Have Anyone Over Syndrome) and is completely free. They do have random nifty things in the store, but the website and the forums and the email lists and the Facebook page are all offered for nothing.

Having read the Facebook posts and the daily emails (these guys talk a LOT) for, erm, months now– I figured it was time to step up my game and actually commit to their teachings. Figure that I’m changing my life around enough for NaNoWriMo that it can’t hurt to add a little extra to the fire.

Ignoring the truly awful website design (seriously people, hire someone!) the first place I hit was the Beginner BabySteps… Which are not as inspiring as one would hope.

Still, I’m giving it a go. The motto of the FlyLady website is that you can do anything in 15 minutes. Having had good success with the 30 minute timer in the past, I sort of have to agree with them.

To the sink!
