What happens: Asa is called in to discover what is eating the flora in the Zoo’s newest exhibit. With the help of another tree spirit (this one bound into the tree) she tracks down the thief. Turns out it’s a grumpy were-tortoise who refuses to agree to stop eating the flowers. She can’t turn him in for being a turtle (who would believe her), so she follows him back to his granddaughter’s house. His granddaughter, who is not a were (although not quite human either), just wants him to leave her alone. Realizing that he refuses to listen to anyone younger than himself, Asa sets off to find someone older… but this is Washington DC and ancients are few and far between. She eventually meets an artifact spirit in the Natural History Museum who convinces him to be less obvious.
What’s it about: Change, adapting to the present, lack of control over the present, good old days?
Hook: Oh good gravy, I have no idea how to write this one. Dryad-variant must stop were-tortoise from eating flowers in the Zoo before he gets them both caught by the normal people? Gah.
