I have a new mantra…

“First Novels Are Supposed to Suck”

*sighs*

Of course it doesn’t help that I read a weblog posting in the last week or so that points out authors should pick one genre to focus on, and thus not annoy their agents by throwing them things across a wide spectrum of genres. Which makes sense, it’s easier to become a marketable name if you have a steady theme… but I’m really not sure The Book That Isn’t RaW is something I want to write more than one of. o_O; *twitch*

But, first novels are supposed to suck, right? So I can write this one, have grand fun learning from my mistakes… and then move onto something I can write more than one of.

Like good old non-blood-soaked generic fantasy! (Avenshark, Songs of the Summer God, Winding Sea, etc) Although, come to think of it, Songs is pretty darned dark in places, and two of the three urban fantasy ‘verses I have on the drawing board are also a mite shady… Hmm.

But first I need to finish the learning experience. *mutters unrepeatable things*

Hey dawnmipb feel like reading a few chapters this weekend? ^_~

      Sounds like a plan! ^_^ Nothing like light homework weekends to kick back and do things you really enjoy. ^_^ *purrs*

      Now if I can just get to sleep before 2am… ^_^;;

        You can send me the outlines and chapters for your mega-crossover and I can start looking at it…

          I shall do that thing! Probably not until Friday, but I shall… *plans grand writing plans for her weekend* ^_^

      I still owe you so much with reading chapters. Life’s back on track, so let me know if you have anything you want me to read over.

      Sorry I’ve been such a flake recently.

        Flake? Huh?

        Believe me, life always takes precedence over art.

        (Huh. I wonder if that’s why I’ve not been published yet. *g*)

        You’re taking care of yourself, and that should always be the number one priority.

        If you still have and want to read the chapter I sent you and comment on it, that’s great. If you don’t have it, I’ll send you another copy.

        But it’s really okay. *g* Last night, I started working on a new thing I’m going to work on all week, just for the discipline factor. I fell a thousand short of my word count goal, but I like where I’m going, so I’ll accept it.

        I’m just glad you’re getting back to your sharp beaked self. *smooths feathers*

          A thousand words? Sheesh, I’m lucky if I can do that in a week most times. ^_^;;

          NaNoWriMo should be fun this year… *grin*

          1. dawnmipb Avatar

            I’m not going to say I absolutely won’t NaNo this year, but let’s just say with 40 hours a week of work, 6 credits this semester and feeding two households….the odds are VERY slim.

            I will gladly cheer you on, though.

            1. Martha Bechtel Avatar

              I just hope there is something to cheer! ^_^;;

              But I’m getting in the swing of things with , so hopefully I can get the ball rolling and keep it rolling this time. Last year I failed rather miserably. ^_^;;;;

          Send me another copy.

          And, yeah, I’m starting to do a lot better. Still trying to hide some, but also trying to tell myself to NOT hide – and actually doing it some!

        Flaking is good for the soul! ^_^ *grin* Everyone needs a little fried brains once in a while… ^_~
