Beyond the Sea

Posted on July 12, 2006May 9, 2011 by Martha Bechtel

There is a land beyond the sea
Whither thou away?
Of green and gold and ivory
And whence return to stay?

Of ancient oak and lofty pine
Thou left me by the shore,
Of river currents laced with time
To wait, alone, once more.

And there she lays in death’s repose
Sweet sleep to pass the years
Her heart wound round with weathered rose
And dreams of thou, my dear

She waits for me to sing her free
A simple unchained melody
Adrift in worlds I cannot see
Come my love and dream with me

There is a land beyond the sea
There is a land beyond the sea
Of green and gold and ivory
Of green and gold and ivory
